Madrid Strengthens Global Tourism Influence with WTTC Headquarters Move

Madrid is reinforcing its position as a global tourism decision-making hub following the announcement that the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) will establish its headquarters in the Spanish capital.

The move marks a significant milestone in Madrid’s evolution from a leading tourism destination into a strategic centre for international tourism governance, investment, and industry collaboration. The city already hosts UN Tourism, formerly UNWTO, and the addition of WTTC further strengthens its role within the global travel ecosystem.

Representing more than 200 of the world’s leading travel and tourism companies, WTTC’s presence is expected to elevate Madrid’s influence in shaping industry agendas, facilitating public-private partnerships, and driving international dialogue around the future of tourism.

Madrid’s appeal as a headquarters destination is underpinned by its strong air connectivity between Europe, the Americas, and emerging global markets, alongside its mature business infrastructure and access to international talent. The city has increasingly positioned itself as a hub for global organisations, corporate groups, and high-level professional gatherings.

The development also enhances Madrid’s standing within the meetings and events sector, with the city continuing to attract international congresses, executive forums, and industry summits. Its combination of corporate infrastructure, cultural offerings, gastronomy, and hospitality continues to support its positioning as a high-value destination for business travel.

With WTTC establishing its base in the city, Madrid is further consolidating its reputation as a strategic platform where tourism policy, innovation, and global industry collaboration intersect.
