Hyatt Regency Gangtok Foundation Stone Signals Boost for Sikkim’s MICE and Luxury Tourism

Sikkim has taken a significant step towards strengthening its meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions (MICE) infrastructure with the foundation stone ceremony for the Hyatt Regency Gangtok, a 150-room luxury hotel planned for the state capital.

Located in the Mintokgang area within the Suryavilas mixed-use development, the property will sit approximately 2 km from MG Marg, close to key attractions including Enchey Monastery and the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology, while also offering access to the arterial route leading to Nathu La Pass.

With Gangtok recording over 1.7 million tourist arrivals in 2025, the addition of a globally branded luxury hotel is expected to address the current shortage of premium accommodation and support the state’s ambitions to attract higher-spending domestic and international visitors.

Developed by SM Developers through its hospitality arm SM Hotels and Resorts Pvt Ltd, the property will include approximately 13,000 sq. ft. of flexible meeting and event space, positioning it as a major hub for corporate gatherings, conventions and destination celebrations in the Eastern Himalayas.

Additional facilities will include multiple dining venues, a Regency Club lounge, spa and wellness facilities, a temperature-controlled outdoor pool and family activity zones. The integrated development will also feature a licensed casino, further strengthening Gangtok’s appeal in the high-value tourism and entertainment segments.

Once completed, Hyatt Regency Gangtok is expected to support festival tourism, conventions, destination weddings and corporate summits, reinforcing Sikkim’s broader strategy of expanding tourism-led economic growth while building international-standard hospitality infrastructure.
