Abu Dhabi Updates Hotel Classification Manual to Align with Global Standards

The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has introduced a comprehensive update to the emirate’s Hotel Classification Manual, following consultations with hospitality stakeholders. The updated framework aims to align Abu Dhabi’s hotels and resorts with global standards while providing clearer guidance on quality and service expectations.

The revision focuses on incorporating global best practices, expanding hotel and resort categories, and introducing accolades for properties that excel in specific areas. The update is expected to elevate guest experiences, offer hotels more specialised classifications, and streamline requirements for investors.

The updated manual is set for completion by Q2 2026, after which hotels will be given a grace period to implement the new standards. DCT Abu Dhabi’s Licensing, Regulatory and Classification Department will oversee implementation to ensure consistency across the emirate.

Commenting on the update, HE Saleh Al Geziry, Director General for Tourism at DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “The updated Hotel Classification Manual positions Abu Dhabi as a global leader in hospitality regulation and provides a clear path for hotels as we work toward our Tourism Strategy 2030 goals.”
