Milan Reinvents Itself as a Global Hub for Innovation, Culture, and Business Events

In an interview with, Fiorenza Lipparini, Director General of Association Milano & Partners, she highlights Milan’s transformation into a dynamic innovation and MICE hub.

What is the one most exciting new feature or development in Milan that you’re eager to share with the global MICE and business events industry?

Milano has undergone a vast process of urban renewal in the last decade. The city sits at the cusp of a transformation into a major innovation hub, attracting international investment and talent from abroad. The 2026 Olympic Games in Milano and the rest of Lombardy (as well as Cortina and a host of Alpine resorts) will put the spotlight on how dramatically the city has changed, with whole new districts, venues and facilities, including a new metro line from the Linate airport to downtown.

Which emerging trend in business events or congresses do you believe will have the most impact in the coming year or years?

The YesMilano Convention Bureau has been working to attract major scientific congresses at the MiCo convention center and industry fairs at Rho Fieramilano. We see an emerging trend in biotech and cleantech, while advances in pharma and medical care on one side, and innovation in fintech and IT on the other, are two areas where Milano’s R&D ecosystem is globally competitive. Also, we look at the business side of major sports events like the upcoming Winter Olympics and the Champions League’s games of AC Milan and FC Inter.

How is Milan working to create more experiential, sustainable, or purpose-driven events for international planners and associations?

We constantly invite organizers, buyers, investors and innovators to experience what Milano has to offer in terms of cultural attractions and sustainable business tourism, by organizing tours of the city, its monument and institutions, and networking events, also sitting around a dinner table, for Milanese gastronomy is in the golden league. We view Milano as a unique destination insofar as it combines leisure, culture and style with academic excellence and financial prowess.
