Abu Dhabi and ICCA Partnership Drives MICE Growth and Global Collaboration

Mubarak Al Shamsi, Director of ADCEB, reflects on Abu Dhabi’s strong partnership with ICCA and its impact on positioning the emirate as a leading global meetings hub. Through collaboration, innovation, and shared advocacy, the partnership continues to strengthen the Middle East’s MICE industry and promote sustainable growth.

As the global congress industry evolves, few partnerships have proven as transformative. Such as the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and Abu Dhabi. Mubarak Al Shamsi, the Director of the Abu Dhabi Convention and Exhibition Bureau (ADCEB) leadership reflects the emirate’s growing influence within the international MICE industry.

“ICCA plays a vital role in advancing the Middle East’s business events sector by providing global connectivity, knowledge exchange and strategic advocacy. For destinations like Abu Dhabi, this partnership has been crucial in strengthening our position as a leading international meetings hub”, said Mubarak.

For Abu Dhabi, ICCA’s efforts to build partnerships and attract high-impact international events have translated into tangible results. Such as supporting economic recovery, driving diversification, and fostering knowledge exchange in line with the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 and the Tourism 2030 strategy.

Beyond the numbers, Mubarak emphasised the broader value ICCA brings and said, “the association also champions the strategic importance of business events, highlighting their economic, social and cultural impact. These are key factors for governments working to position MICE as a driver of growth.”

Hosting ICCA Congress 2024 in Abu Dhabi marked a significant milestone for the region. It showcased not only world-class infrastructure and professional excellence, but also the collaborative spirit that defines these global meetings. The event exemplified the synergy between ICCA and regional stakeholders, underscoring a shared commitment to innovation and knowledge exchange.

As Mubarak’s two-year service on the ICCA Board comes to an end, he reflects on the experience as both transformative and fulfilling. “Serving on the ICCA board allowed me to contribute to global advocacy efforts and help shape the strategic direction of our industry. It has also strengthened Abu Dhabi’s visibility on the international stage,” said Mubarak.

The ICCA congress offers a global platform to champion the social and economic value of the meetings industry while advancing key themes such as sustainability, inclusivity, and innovation.

Looking ahead, Mubarak sees ICCA not merely as a network but as a catalyst for progress. It empowers destinations like Abu Dhabi to connect, learn, and lead in shaping a dynamic and resilient global MICE industry.
